Who's right? Who's wrong?

Whose side are you on? Should Creon be free to impose his will as king to prohibit the burial of Polyneices or should Antigone be free to act on her beliefs in keeping with the laws of the gods and bury her brother? Explain why you believe as you do and please post your comments by Monday, April 20, 2009.

The side I am choosing in this one would have to go to Antigone. I think what she did was the right thing to do even if it went against the law. I believe this because her brother is more important than laws. It shows that she is doing the right thing and loyal to her brother that had died in battle. If one brother is buried don't you think the other one should be not considering the laws. It shows that she has her priorities set and that she knows what to do when something like this happens. She also knows her brother comes first and laws don't because love for her brother is much more greater than the laws of not burying a brave soldier.

Since Creon is the king he should be able to prohibit the burial of Polyneices. Polyneices let him down and those were the rules. Although Antigone broke the rules and buried her brother, she was just doing what she thought was right. I think I agree more with Antigone though. She is just doing what she feels is right, although it is against the rules. Creon should've realized this was going to happen. Polyneices meant alot to Antigone and she wants him to have a proper burial, and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

So, it's come to this now. Alright, well I happen to value the rules of life, but that doesn't mean I have to follow all rules laid down that doesn't seem fair. This is exactly what Antigone tried to prove in honoring her fallen brother. I would have done the same too if one of my family members was not given a proper respect and peace. So, Antigone was right and wrong, beacause she did defy the law and continued to stain her family's reputation in the eyes of those who do not want more trouble happening then there are, but she did have a good reason to do it under the eyes of the gods who laid down the Real rules and to put her brother to rest in peace. Oh and by the way, Creon's rule reminds me of the Metallica song, "King Nothing." If you don't get connection, go ahead and listen to it and you'll see what I mean.

I would have to say that I am very uncertain who's side I'm on. But when I think about it, I would have to say I'm on Antigone's sided. I think that she should have the right to bury her own brother even if it was against the law. I think it was very brave of her to be willing to die inorder to bring honor to her brother. Back then it was a big honor to have a proper burial and to have no burial at all was an unhonorable thing and it brought shame to that person. Antigone showed a lot of loyaltly to her family and especially her brother. Antigone proves that love is more important than anything else, including her life. I think people have lost that throughtout the years.

I believe that Polyneices should have a proper burial like anyone else would be able to have. I side wholly and completely with Antigone. She definitely should have the right to bury her brother and honor the life that he had. Although, rules are important, this is one situation where I probably would be disobedient to help the brother that I love. Antigone is already grieving at the loss of Polyneices and Creon is telling her he can not be burried. If I were Antigone in this situation I would also be extremely upset. I would want the best possible thing for my brother and I would try to take control of the situation. Creon is the king, and is taking advantage of his power in a very unjust way. He knows he has the highest rule and he is doing whatever pleases him, but Polyneices should still be burried in my opinion.

I believe that Antigone was right in burying her brother. Creon was wrong to make a rule saying that no one could even touch Polynieces dead body. Polynieces may have betrayed Creon but he still had a right to have a proper burial. Antigone was only doing what any loyal sister would do. It was her brother and even though he betrayed Ceon, she still loved and cared for him. He did something wrong but Antigone still cared for him as if he had done nothing. She didn't think it was right to just leave his body for animals to pick at. In a way, what Antigone did was wrong because it was against the rules but she knew the rules were wrong and she was willing to accept the consequences to do what she believed was right.

Theres no doubt in my mind that I am on Antigone's side. We all agree that if one of our family members died, we would want to do the proper thing in our minds and not let the government make that decision for us. It really meant a lot to do the right thing regarding the burial of her brother and the kind should've respected her decision and listened to her viewpoint a little more. It was not fair to Antigone that she was treated the way she was. If I were her I would've stood up for what I believed in and that's what she did. As everyone else said, it is important to follow the rules, this might be one of the times where the right thing to do would be to not to let someone make this big decision for you. I think Creon was entirely wrong with his ideas and rules and I think he should have given Antigone more respect.

Much Happiness.

I am deffinitely on Antigones side! Polyneices, like any other human, does not deserve to just be left in the middle of the road for the birds to eat away at. No matter what he did. Thats horrible. Creon is just on a power trip, in my opinion. He wants to be in charge of everything and everyone. Hes taking his power to far. Antigone is doing the right thing by following the laws of the gods and burying her brother! Shes sticking up for what she believes in and she doesn't deserve to die. People should look up to her for doing such a courageous thing. Creon is a jerk! End of story.

I believe that Creon should have let Polyneices be buried in the first place. Burying is a very spiritual thing and everyone deserves that at least after being brave and fighting in a battle. Antigone was doing the right thing when she buried him; even if it risked her life in the process. I would've done the same thing if something like this happened to someone in my family or one of my friends.

I kind of think Creon should be allowed to do what he did. The laws state that he, as king, is allowed to create any law that he wishes, wether it breaks someone's personal beliefs or not. He is the king, he made the law.
Antigone needs to obey the laws. Both the laws of the land and the laws of the gods. But when they conflict, she chose to obey the god's laws. That was her choice. She knew the consequences and she was gonna have to live with them.
So I feel that neither of them were wrong. Creon was right to create the laws that he wants, and Antigone was right to make the choice as to whose laws she held in higher regard, the God's.
