What have we learned?

We’ve talked about The Metamorphosis as containing elements of a beast fable or parable, both storytelling mechanisms designed to illustrate a moral lesson.
What lesson[s] does The Metamorphosis have for you? What have we learned? Please post your comments by Monday, December 8, 2008.

We've learned not to rely on one or more other people to take care of us and to work hard for ourselves. We must take this in consideration that it won't be long before we graduate and move on to work for ourselves and watch over our lives. The very thought of it is just scary, which I must admit really does fit well with the tone of the story. Nevertheless, be mindful everyone; it's only three years before we move on and begin our lives anew.

We've learned many things from reading this story. Although most of us know this already; we've learned not to let others push us around or rely on us that much. Its just common sense not to let your life get like Gregor's was. He couldn't even live his own life and get out to do what he wanted to do.
Living a life like Gregor did wouldn't even be worth living. Whats the point if he can't even live for himself?

I think the metamorphosis teaches us a lot of different of lessons. Some of the lessons can be a very helpful to us in life. I think some lessons would have to be not to rely on other people for your success in your own life. I think you should get through life with only a little bit of help from your friends. You shouldn't rely on others so you can get through in life.

I think another lesson would be not to keep secrets from family. I think this is a good lesson because Gregor was worrying that his family wouldn't make it but his father had money stored. To keep this secret from family is a big thing. I think you should tell your family everything that has to do with the family problems or anything else.

I think we have learned that families are an important thing in life. I think this tells us that they could help an individual through life when the going gets tough for that individual.

I think that it is showing us that we need to stick up for ourselves. I mean we all need to be nice to people and stuff. Although, if we are too nice, you could end up like a pushover. Like Gregor. He also ended up feeling responsible for something that he should never have had to do. At least not in the circumstances that he was under. I think that if he would have jsut stuck up for himself, told his dad to get a job, to quit whining about his failed business. Then tell his mom to quit being such a wuss and to do the same. What kind of excuse is asthma. people hva done so much with that ailment and alot more with alot worse problems. So I think that his parent were being a bunch of immature brats that forced there responsibility on there son. And he took it. He did it, because he was being nice. So being too nice can let the door open for someone to take advantage of us. So the lesson that i got from this story is to stick up for yourself.

We have learned a few things from reading the Metamorphosis. One of those things is that our lives are changing everyday and that our life could be completely different when we wake up in the morning. Gregor's life was completely changed when he woke up. He was no longer human, he couldn't provide for his family anymore and his family was afraid of him. It did not say in the story, be we can assume that his life was what he considered normal the night before. Everything changed for him and his family so quickly. We also learned that you shouldn't rely on someone else. The Metamorphosis showed us that you can't rely on one person because they won't always be there for you to rely on. We learned that we have to be able to rely on ourselves and not others. Gregor's family relied on Gregor to provide for them and when he turned into an insect, they had to figure things out and provide for themselves.

We learn a lot of lessons from The Metamorphosis.I learn that I should become more independent as we get older. I should start taking responsibility for our actions. Once you become an adult, you really shouldn't need to rely on anyone else for very many things. I also learned that hard work will be a part of becoming independent. You can't just ask your mom to clean your room. I also learned that you should not rely upon one person too heavily for your everyday needs. The entire family relied upon Gregor for money to buy everything they needed.

I also learned that having a good relationship with you family will do you good. Gregor didn't have such a good relationship with his family, which basically ended up killing him. We should always be able to go to our family if we need someone to rely upon. In Gregor's situation, he really didn't have a person to rely on and be comforted by except his sister.

The story the metamorphosis can be used to teach us a few different lessons. I think that the lessons in this story were very valuable lessons and we all can learn from them.

One of the great lessons that I got from this story is that we as humans have to learn to be independent people and to fend for ourselves. The choices we make, the actions we take, and the achievements that we receive are the things that will show our success in our lives. When I see a successful and truly happy person I think that they must have done a lot in there lifetime and that they must have been a diligent, hard worker. We make ourselves successful. In Gregor’s case, he was a very hard worker but we didn’t see his own happiness and his own success because every thing he had was his families. Gregor was a very giving and generous person and I think he is a great example for all of us. However, he also needed to do some things for himself. He needed to tell his family that he was a grown man with his own life and that he wanted to make something of himself. He needed to tell them that they were all healthy adults that were fully capable of handling jobs for themselves. This leads into the other lesson I got from the story, which was that we have to stick up for ourselves. We all need to do this.

I also think that this story shows the importance of family. It demonstrates how distant and diverse families can be, which shows us that in a family we need love and care for each other. Gregor’s family was selfish and greedy. They were worried about themselves and didn’t seem to care that Gregor was missing out on a life that could’ve been for him. I think that the things that were negative and wrong in this story help to show us what is actually right.

This also ties into what makes us human, because us as humans have so many abilities, rights and privileges, because of this we can make our mark in the world and we can make ourselves proud, joyous, and successful.

From reading this story, I learned a few different things. First off, Gregor seemed alienated throughout the entire story, just from reading the first few pages you could gather that he was alientated by his family for probably his entire life. He was relied on to do so much for his family and it got to him at times. I learned that you will have to stand up for yourself a few times in your lifetime, but also that you might have to do things that you don't really want to do because it could be best in the long run. That ties in with my second thought, guilt. I think besides the fact that you can't rely on other people as you grow older, i took away that you can't have guilt control your life. In this whole story it seemed to me that Gregor carried alot of guilt after he was transformed because he couldn't help his family out and you could tell that affected him a lot. He dies for his family just as he lived for them; out of guilt.

Another lesson I took from this story is that you can't let other people break you down or use you for anything. Gregor's family often treated him as a source of income instead of a family member and then when he could no longer provide for him family, they wanted nothing to do with him. His father especially was very demeaning towards him and his feelings. So, in conclusion, all it boils down to for me is that you have to live your life the way you feel is right way to live it.

I think from this story we've deffinitely learned that when you grow up and it's time to move on out of your parents house you need to go out and pursue something that you're interested in. Don't do something you hate just to please your parents. Gregor was obviously miserable in his house. He let his family push him around. They were so used to him bringing money home for them they stopped appreciating him for it.

Don't ever let people push you around; especially your family. You should be living in a house with people that are thankful for you. That would just make you hate your life even more.

By reading The Metamorphosis I have learned a lot of lessons. One important lesson would be learn who to trust. Throughout your life you will have ups and downs and you need to be able to count on someone. A good friend of mine told me the only person you can ever count on to help you in life is God. God is always there for you and He will be your best friend. Gregor thought he could trust his parents, but he really couldn't.
I also learned to live your life like you want to. You shouldn't do something for someone else just because they want you to. If you have a dream or a plan, do it and be happy. Don't try to please other people just to fit it. Gregor tried to do what his parents wanted him to do, and it ruined his life.

As BullWinkle said you should tell your parents everything. They are there to help you and I learned this the other night. You may have messed up a few times in your life but they are still going to love you no matter what. They may me mad or upset at first but after awhile everything will fine and you will be able to go on with your life and it may be with someone or without. Sometimes its better without.

AcuteMan said by not having a good relationship with his family it ended up killing him. This is also another very important lesson. Have a good, strong, positive relationship with your family because you will be able to count on them no matter what.

I think the metamorphosis has some pretty good lessons in its storyline and plot. Throughout the story i started to pick up were Gregor has made his mistakes. Gregor was always letting people walk all over him. That s a good lesson right there. If you let people walk all over you, you get to feeling bad for yourself and you give up on doing what you want to do with your life. I think thats why Gregor was turned into a bug. We should try to live our own life's and rely on ourselves most of all.
